Forward

Forward is a new medical office providing an innovative form of preventative care, bringing together data-driven technology, A.I., wearable sensors and 24/7 mobile access to redefine the healthcare paradigm. The design is a careful integration of spatial and virtual strategies to ensure a fluid experience for the member.

Clients begin by checking in at an iPad counter before taking a full vitals body scan of weight, height, pulse, and blood pressure. In the consult room, the doctor and member engage directly with the aid of an interactive touch screen. Like the app, this touch screen provides immediate feedback for the member's health plan.

The space is lit by a series of carefully programmed lighting fixtures. As natural light varies throughout the day, so does the lighting within the space to better synchronize to circadian rhythms.

UCSF Medical Center

UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is a state-of-the-art hospital complex that was built with a focus on the patient's experience every step of the way. The Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital was designed to deliver the same cutting-edge care in a setting that supports the whole women. Light-filled private rooms were built to comfortably accommodate visitors. Four acres of green space and mediation rooms provide space to relax and recharge. Amenities in the state-of-the-art Birth Center range from bathtubs built specifically for laboring women to dedicated infant care in every room, so mother and baby can stay together during minor tests and procedures. The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco features child-friendly patient rooms, common areas designed to foster community, and spacious facilities that aim to enrich the hospital's range of Child Life Services.

2016 IESNA Illumination Award of Merit

Offices of Dr. Edward Miranda

"Minimalism is paramount" was the design guideline given by the clients during the design process for this clinic of plastic surgery in San Francisco. The lighting team was challenged to create a well-lit workspace that is simple and contemporary while remaining refreshing and welcoming. Seamless integration between lighting and architecture was sought, and close coordination among all members of the design team meant a successful project was the result.
